Add Charter Fishing to Your Las Vegas Vacation

The majority of tourists who visit Las Vegas rarely leave the Strip, and when they do it’s unlikely that they will ever consider the possibility of fishing in the desert. However, the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, located just outside Las Vegas, has been a popular spot for local anglers and boaters since the 1940s. Anglers can enjoy the lake year round, and in some locations, 24 hours a day.

Lake Mead began its history in the 1930s with the completion of Hoover Dam. The lake reservoir now stretches over 100 miles in a swath of desert between Arizona and Nevada. It is easily accessible from either state and is just a short drive from Las Vegas through Boulder City.

Lake Mead is fed by the Colorado River and is regularly stocked with rainbow trout. Previous stocking of the lake has led to the natural reproduction of other fish, and anglers may discover large mouth bass, stripers, bluegills, and more. And despite the drought, or perhaps because of it, fishing in Lake Mead has never been better. However, the vastness of the lake can make it difficult to find specific fish without the help of a charter fishing company.

Charter fishing takes advantage of the knowledge of local experts and can make for a more entertaining trip. Working with a charter will also help tourists navigate the various fishing licenses that must be obtained before catching any fish. Ideal bachelor parties for the outdoorsman, the cost of charter fisher can be split among friends. Contracts cost around $300 dollars for 2 people, and $100 or more for additional guests. Charter fishing is particularly convenient for tourists who do not have their own equipment.

Before committing to a charter fishing company, anglers should make sure that they are hiring a reputable charter. For example, all legitimate charters in Nevada must have master guides. These guides have to maintain their licenses on an annual basis, which includes Red Cross certification and liability insurance. Becoming a master guide requires a great deal of money, patience, and expertise, so only the most serious anglers will go through the annual licensing process.

Make Sure You are in Compliance by Using an Environmental Consultant

Nobody wants their business to be fined. It is a hassle that takes manpower and money away from your company. In this time of heightened environmental awareness and protection, companies must be careful to stay in compliance with the constantly changing regulations put into effect to protect our land, water and air. Developments must not be a detriment to the land they are on. Buildings must be rid of hazardous elements. Businesses are being challenged to be more socially responsible, and the failure to do so is costly. This compliance can be taken care of in house, but it is likely more efficient to contract this work out to an environmental consultant.

In the time of carbon footprints and climate change companies are being forced to pay more attention to the environmental concerns of their businesses. Not only do they have to focus on the economical benefits of their actions, but they also have to ensure, legally, that the environment and the people affected by it are protected in the face of those actions. Environmental consultants are there to take the confusion out of all the applicable regulations and make sure the company in gets into and stays in compliance.

Or, if you have some asbestos or lead hazards to contend with, you will want a consultant who specializes in these situations.

Some consultants approach their practices from and environmental standpoint. They are there to consul you on the ever-changing world of “green” and what it means. They might also be called Green Consultants. If you are looking to quantify and reduce your carbon footprint as a company or decrease your energy waste, an environmental consultant approaching this problem from an environmental standpoint will challenge you to increase your recycling or promote carpooling amongst employees regardless if the fiscal benefits are positive.

For some companies, being green might not be entirely possible or desired. Regardless, being in compliance is a must. The are consultants for this type also. Whether it be finding a way to cut down on utility bills or minimizing the impact of an impending development, there is someone who will be able to consult you as to how to go about it legally and ethically.

Regardless of the nature of your business and the direction from which you approach your environmental responsibility, there are guidelines that must be followed. These regulations need to be met to ensure that your business is a good neighbor. Being in compliance with the myriad of rules is what an environmental consultant can do for you.

At the end of the day, everyone benefits from businesses adhering to environmental regulations. If public goodwill is not enough, then freedom from fines is benefit aplenty. The benefits are therefore twofold- greater profit for your company and the good karma from protecting the environment.

The housing market has been making headlines for many months now, but with every new year since the economy dropped out, it seems that there are two different opinions on what real estate will be doing in the next ten years. The good news for first time homebuyers is that there are many factors on your side when it comes to purchasing a home.

For first time homebuyers, the motive must be clear. Buy a house to make a home; don’t buy a house to make some money. Flipping homes is no longer lucrative, even though you can get labor much cheaper than in past months, due to the slowing of remodeling projects. But as the economy improves we will begin to see home prices and interest rates rise. So until the economy bounces back, this is going to be a buyers market.

It is good news that the banks are being more picky with who they give loans to these days, since the irresponsible lending of these banks were one of the main reasons that foreclosures have skyrocketed in America, deflating the hopes of real estate being a good investment in any and all of those who bought at the top of the market. The big question is: will home values continue to drop? It’s anyone’s guess at this point.

Keeping Your Paper Manufacturing Business Profitable

It is a wonder that anyone uses paper anymore. Almost anything new that’s “printed” is done so online – often exclusively. This is everything from academic books to newspaper, so it would seem obvious that except in the personal hygiene area, paper manufacturing is a dying industry. Except that this isn’t true. Despite everything, we use more paper now than we ever have before.

Being successful in any industry, whether it’s one that’s growing like paper manufacturing or anything else means knowing a number of things. Knowing the best and most efficient way to produce your product is one, but understanding the wants and needs of your potential customer base can be even more crucial.

Because paper manufacturing has such a bad reputation when it comes to cutting down trees – especially now that process exist that make hardwoods just as good for making paper as softwoods – it is increasingly important to be able to demonstrate environmental consciousness. This goes far beyond replanting trees, which while important, is only one of the things your potential customers may want to know about you before they buy.

Knowing what your market wants of you in terms of being green is important. Knowing what your federal, state and local regulations require of you can make or break. Having the best search engine terms in the world will not save your reputation from the stain of getting named as a potentially responsible party in a federal lawsuit. Staying on the right side of all this from the start is the best way to go, and shows willing to be a good neighbor.

Being green can keep you in the black in other ways as well. The savvy customer today will not only use search terms like “paper manufacturing” but “pre-consumer” and “post-consumer recycling” to determine your level of use of such items. Having the ability to advertise your awareness of local needs, not to mention that by sourcing locally, you help keep jobs in the area – which is another great thing to be able to put on your website – will show your customer base that you understand them and make them far more likely to flock to your product.

Environmental awareness is, of course, only one aspect of producing for your target market. Making sure you have the right product, the quality of paper – with locally produced dyes and sizings where at all possible – and in the right format to fit their needs will not only make sure you are filling a need, but demonstrate that you know what that need is.

Because marketing locally is becoming more and more a part of our economy, the business that understands their locale is likely to have an edge. And we all need all the extra help we can get these days. If your potential customers know you understand them, they are far more likely to buy from you.

3 Types of Must-have Insurance Policies

Wouldn’t it be great to live a life without risk? Unfortunately, that is not the case. People get sick, they have automobile accidents, and they pass away. That’s why you need insurance policies to cover your health, your vehicle, and to help with funeral expenses and provide for your loved ones when you die. Here’s why.

Health Insurance – Health insurance covers everything from physical exams to well-child checks to medical care in the event of an accident. Because we’re exposed to germs, illnesses, and, to some extent, physical dangers every day, health insurance is a must-have policy. The good news is that if you are a full-time employee, you can probably get health insurance through your employer at a discounted, group rate. If not, check around to find an insurance company that offers affordable insurance with the best coverage.

Auto Insurance – You can’t escape it. Once you step foot into the car, you’re at the mercy of road conditions, bad weather, and the occasional bad driver. Auto insurance is designed to replace or repair automobiles as well as cover auto accident expenses that result in bodily injury or death. Today, most states require that you have an auto insurance policy. Check around, though, especially if you have a low credit score. Auto insurance policies base their rates on credit reports. They say that individuals with lower credit scores file more claims; therefore, they’re a higher financial risk to the company.

Life Insurance – Let’s face it; we’ll all die one day. Without life insurance, your loved ones will have to bear the burden of your funeral costs and could, quite possibly, endure financial hardship. Because most employers offer life insurance policies to their full-time employees, it’s quite easy to get one at an affordable rate. If you are not eligible for a group rate through an employer, a term life policy is an affordable option you may consider.

Health insurance, auto insurance, and life insurance policies are there when you need them. Because life is full of risks, it’s always a good idea to make sure that you are covered when an unexpected turn of events occurs.

Where Paper Comes From

Most likely, you have used paper today. The stuff is all over the place. From books to magazines to printed pictures, you can hardly get away from paper. But where does paper come from? How does it go from growing in the forest to sitting in your printer?

Someone has to make all that paper, and unless you are a paper manufacturer, chances are it isn’t you. Paper manufacturers have the task of turning hard, splintery wood into the smooth paper we write on or the boxes we ship with. And how they do it is fascinating.

Making pulp is the first step to making paper. Sometimes, the source of the pulp is whole trees; however some manufacturers may use scraps that are left over from logging or sawmills in order to make paper. Used paper is the source of pulp for making recycled paper. However, because the processing shortens the fibers, often new pulp has to be added to recycled pulp.

The substance in trees that makes paper possible is cellulose, and the pulping process is all about separating it from the other substances, such as lignin and sugar, that are contained in wood. Two main processes that allow paper manufacturers to do this are chemical processes and mechanical processes. Mechanical processes–basically, chopping up the wood into pulp–allow for a high yield of cellulose but results in a weak paper that can turn yellow in the sun. Chemical processes on the other hand, use chemicals, heat, and pressure to make pulp that yields stronger paper. The two pulps can also be combined for paper that has the characteristics the manufacturers are looking for.

In order to make the resulting paper whiter, the pulp can be bleached. A combination of different chemicals such as hydrogen peroxide and bleach can be used to make the paper whiter or remove lignin still in the pulp. Once bleached, the pulp is sprayed on a screen. After drying and pressing, the paper can be rolled, cut, and shipped.

You may think that all paper products come from trees, but that is not true. For higher quality paper, cotton can be added as an ingredient in the papermaking process. Bamboo, flax, and sugar cane are three more examples of plants that can be made into paper. However, most of the paper you see is made from wood. Trees with longer fibers, i.e. softwoods, are better at making sturdier, rougher paper. Shorter fibers, i.e. hardwoods, are better for making softer, smoother paper. Combinations of the two can also be used to make paper with the desired characteristics.

The products made with paper can show up in many places. Sent a greeting card or printed off a report lately? You’ve used paper. Spilled something and needed a paper towel to pick it up? You’ve used paper. Fell and needed a bandage . . . that’s right; it was probably made of paper. So the next time you use paper products, give a thanks to a paper manufacturer. Without him, where would you be?
